Tragedy struck the country again last week, as the flooding which has already killed hundreds and displaced thousands in Dire Dawa struck the Omo river, bursting its banks. The death toll is climbing, with official estimates in the two tragedies exceeding 1,000. Earlier this week, in Southern Omo Zone, the flooded Omo River prevented rescue crews from reaching thousands of stranded villages, including Bedashnech and Yangapon wordeas, the office of the Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency disclosed to Capital. more >>
