Eritrean government causing instability in Horn: Seyoum Mesfin

19 January 2007

Addis Ababa, January 18, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin said the Eritrean government, which attaches itself with terrorists, has taking itself in deteriorating position through bringing instability in the Horn of Africa.

The government should understand that it would achieve nothing through its anti-peace policy, Seyoum said.

In an exclusive interview with Ethiopian Television, Seyoum said the Eritrean government has repeatedly been putting the Horn of Africa at risk.

Seyoum said, the Eritrean government has been neglected by the international community from time to time due to its anti-peace policy.

Seyoum said the Eritrean people are the primary victims of the Eritrean government’s policy.

The Eritrean government would never achieve its evil objectives, Seyoum said, adding it would rather destroy itself.

The Minister urged the Eritrean government to refrain from its anti-peace moves.

Ethiopia has the capacity to safeguard itself, Seyoum said, adding, its main agenda is to eradicate poverty, strengthen peace and democracy.

Ethiopia doesn't want to hold rivalry position with anyone, he said, adding rather it would work jointly with the Africa Union and the international community to fight against terrorism.
