Ethiopian Leases two DC-10-30F Freighter Aircraft

Ethiopian leases-in two DC-10-30F freighter aircraft to bolster its cargo capacity to support the ever increasing export market of the country. The lease agreement for the two freighter aircraft was signed in first week of December, 2006 between Ethiopian Airlines and World Airways Inc; based in US. Both cargo aircraft will start operation on January 01, 2007.

The addition of these two freighter aircraft will provide 520 additional tonnes of weekly cargo capacity, which will go a long way to meet the increasing demand for more capacity at a time of significant growth of Ethiopian export market. Ethiopian horticultural export has registered a significant growth in the last couple of months. The perishable export data of October and November 2006 has shown 17% and 30% increase respectively compared to the same period of last year.

The aircraft will mainly serve the Addis Ababa - Brussels route, but will also operate on other sectors like Cairo, Khartoum, Dubai, Kinshasa and Nairobi depending on the market demand.

Ethiopian has direct scheduled cargo flight to its extensive destinations and operates 10 times per week to Brussels, Ethiopian cargo hub in Europe, 5 times a week to Dubai, thrice to Mumbai, thrice to Lagos and a weekly flight to Kinshasa, Bujumbura and Kigali in addition to belly-hold space on scheduled passenger services.
