(SomaliNet) Heavy gun battle has erupted on Sunday in the outskirt of Jilib town in southern Somalia between Islamic fighters and the Ethiopian backed interim government troops.
The sound of heavy artillery fires could be heard in Jamame town near Jilib, local residents said.
One of the residents in Jilib told Somalinet that the fighting has broken out around 5:00 pm local time.
Abdirashid Hidig, a member of parliament confirmed the local media that the war started with both sides using all sorts of weapons.
It is not yet known the casualties of the latest clashes.
Before the war began, both side were gathering and preparing for last showdown.
Meanwhile, people in Jilib town, some hundreds kilometers south of the Somalia capital Mogadishu began already fleeing to escape the war.
