DJ Phatsu, one of Ethiopia’s upcoming young disco jockeys, will be the official music composer of the 16th CAA African Athletics Championships, organizers announced today.

The 26-year old, who has been contracted by the Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) for the competition, has a wide-ranging experience and is known in Ethiopia for his remixes and has performed in almost all hot spots in Addis Ababa.

He is also one of a handful of Ethiopian disco jockeys to have international experience having performed in Milan, Italy.

“I really have good vibes in my heart,” he writes on his website www.myspace.com/djphatsu. “I really want to see my people happy and everybody smile. I want to make a difference.”

Phatsu, a.k.a Surafel Gizachew, is part of a professional event presentation team that will present a world class event to an anticipated capacity crowd of 25,000 people at the Addis Ababa stadium.

Led by Admassu Saji, the event presentation manager, the team is composed of renowned announcer Paulos Alemayehu, who will do the Amharic announcements, while Gerard Herens, a producer with the BBC French Service in London and Cameroonian journalist Louissette Thobi will be doing the English and French announcements.
