Ethiopia on alert for “terrorist attack”

04 November, 2008

APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) The Ethiopian federal police and the anti-terrorist task force warned on Tuesday afternoon that security forces have information that suggests the country is under the threat of a “terrorist attack”.

The federal police fears an imminent “terrorist attack” in the country.

However both the federal police and the anti–terrorist task force did not mention what kind of “terrorist attack” is likely to be carried out in the country and who are the people behind it.

A good number of police have been deployed in various places of Addis Ababa, mainly in public gathering areas.

The anti-terrorist task force and the federal police urged the public to closely follow this alert and tip them when they see unusual activities.

They also urged the public to cooperate with the police for unexpected search on the streets and other places.

Few months ago, Ethiopia suffered an explosion in which many died.

The government usually accuses the Ogaden National Liberation Front and the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) for the various explosions in and outside Addis Ababa.

The two fronts, being regarded as “terrorist” and “anti-peace elements” by the Ethiopian government, claim to struggle for the “independence” of the Ogaden and Oromo people.
