Addis Ababa, June 28, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - Chief Executive Officer of the Ethiopian Airlines, Girma Wake said the airliner is executing wide ranging activities to launch 10 new flight routs over the coming three years.
The launching of Ethiopian’s flight to Bahrain would enhance government to government and people to people relations of the two nations.
Girma told Ethiopian News Agency reporter in Manama, Bahrain, recently that the Ethiopian is opening new flight routs in a bid to satisfy the ever growing international demand of air transport.
He said the new routs would be opened in different states of America, Europe, Canada and Middle Eastern countries.
Girma said Ethiopian envisages increasing the number of its jet planes to 30 in two year’s period from 23 at present.
Ethiopian is now serving 2.2 million passengers annually, while it is exerting efforts to carry up to three million passengers after three years, he said.
Girma further said Ethiopian is eyeing to double the achievements it registered over the past 60 years in the coming five years.
Accordingly, the CEO said, the airliner is engaged in building its institutional structure and human resource capacity, and added that it is making utmost efforts to increase the number of its employees to 6,000 in three years period.
The newly inaugurated flight to Bahrain, that would operate three times a week, would bolster trade, investment and tourism relation between the two countries.
Since most of the food items being consumed in Bahrain are imported from abroad, the newly inaugurated flight would create favorable opportunity to Ethiopian investors to exploit the market opportunity in Bahrain by exporting meat, coffee, vegetables, fruits.
The new flight launched to Bahrain brought the number of the airlines' destinations to 50.
