Addis Ababa, October 15, 2007 (WIC) – Ethiopian Airlines is reportedly undertaking a study to replace the old Fokker and Dash 6 aircrafts used for domestic flights with new and modern aircrafts.
Marketing and Sales Operation Director, Yeneneh Tekleyes, told WIC that replacing the aircrafts became necessary in order to accommodate the increasing number of passengers and solve complaints raised about the flights.
Domestic flights are occasionally cancelled due to the technical problems Fokker and Dash 6 planes face, he said, recalling that the planes have yet been rendering satisfactory services despite their age.
The airline is thus finalizing the study to settle problems related to the airplanes while notifying states to rehabilitate airports in collaboration with Civil Aviation Authority.
The study underway will on the other hand enable the Airline to import better aircrafts for domestic flights, the director elaborated.
Ethiopian Airlines has of late been flying jets four times a week to Mekelle, Axum and Gondar towns, he said, adding that it has also finalized preparations to begin flying to Bahirdar.
Jet flights to Axum, Lalibela, Gondar and Mekelle have alleviated the complaints of passengers related to the few number of passengers which Fokker and Dash 6 aircraft used to carry.
Despite the jet flights to the stated destinations four times a week, the regular daily flights of the Fokker and Dash 6 have not been disrupted, according to Yeneneh.
