20,000 Ethiopians in U.S.A. sign up for air tickets for millennium celebrations: EAL

Addis Ababa, March 18, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - The Ethiopian Airlines (EAL) says some 20,000 Ethiopians residing in U.S.A. have so far signed up for air tickets to travel back home and join in the celebrations of the Ethiopian Millennium.

Celebrations officially begins on June 8, which runs until the climax event on September 12, a day which marks Ethiopian New Year, and continues during the whole the year round (2000 Ethiopian Calendar).

Accordingly, the number of weekly flights to the U.S. has been increased to six from four, Chief Operations Officer with EAL, Tewolde Gebremariam told Ethiopian News Agency.

More Ethiopians residing in the U.S. are booking with EAL, he said.

He said EAL has been making consultations to work in cooperation with counterparts so as to be able to cater for the demands of people from all over the globe planning to come to Ethiopia to celebrate the Ethiopian Millennium festival.

EAL has also been on the move to obtain more aircraft on lease for the same cause.
