JEDDAH: Drivers and housemaids are to be recruited from Ethiopia within the next two months at monthly salaries of SR700 and SR800 respectively, Al-Watan newspaper reported.

Saad Al-Baddah, chairman of the National Commission for Recruitment (NCR) at the Council of Saudi Cham-bers of Commerce, said the NCR has finally signed a deal to recruit manpower from the east African nation.

Following a series of meetings over a span of six months, an agreement to this effect was signed with the Ethiopian Federation of Manpower Recruitment at NCR headquarters in Riyadh on Wednesday. Al-Baddah said monthly salaries for Ethiopians working in other sectors would be decided according to their professions and work experience.

He added that Ethiopians would work in the Kingdom under a consolidated commitment contract, and that a joint committee would oversee their activities and resolve any problem that may arise.

The NCR chairman added that the agreement included the establishment of training centers in Ethiopia to train housemaids before they come to the Kingdom.

He, however, did not reveal the nature of this training. Seven clinics in various parts of the Kingdom have also been assigned to carry out medical tests on the new Ethiopian recruits.

Chairman Al-Baddah added that he would be traveling to the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan this week to discuss ways of recruiting housemaids from there. - Arab News
