President of the Ethiopian International Institute of Peace and Development (EIIPD), Professor Kinfe Abraham, passed away at age 57 on Thursday, his office told The Reporter.

“Professor Kinfe fell ill on Wednesday and was taken to the Armed Forces Hospital where he was getting treatment. On Thursday, he was a few hours from being flown to Saudi Arabia on a MIDROC airplane, when he passed away at midnight. The cause of death was high blood pressure,” Professor Kinfe’s chief assistant Eyassu Solomon said.

The late Professor Kinfe Abraham’s burial ceremony will be held today at noon, at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in the presence of his family and close friends, the diplomatic community, representatives of international organizations, and high level government officials.

Author of numerous books, journals and publications, Professor Kinfe had a certificate in International Security Studies, Graduate School of International Relations, from the University of Geneva, 1996, a Ph.D. in Educational Planning and Technology, from (CULA), USA, 1983, Ph.D. in Race and International Relations (African and Afro-American Research - From Race to Class) Uppsala University and CULA, 1982, FBSC Fellow of the British Society of Commerce (London, UK, 1977), ABSC Associate of the British Society of Commerce (London, UK, 1976), MA American Literary Studies, Uppsala University, 1979, MA level diploma in Advanced Industrial Management, The Research Institute for Management Science, The Netherlands, (RVB),1973, BA in Education Administration, Addis Ababa University, 1971.

Described as one of the leading thinkers of Africa by the Africa World Journal [AWJ] and a winner of a Peace Award, until his death Professor Kinfe was the president of the Ethiopian International Institute for Peace and Development (EIIPD), president of the HADAD International Lobby, and Chief Political Advisor of IGAD.

He also served as Director General of Political and Humanitarian Affairs and as Acting and Deputy Executive Secretary of IGAD.

Professor Kinfe is survived by a son and a daughter.
