Meles leaves for Germany to attend G8 summit

Addis Ababa, June 7, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - A high level Ethiopian government delegation led by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi left here for Germany early Thursday morning to attend G8 annual summit.

Meles went to Germany at the invitation of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The three-day G8 summit that opened on Wednesday evening near the German Baltic resort of Heiligendamm, is expected to deliberate on climate change, the development in Africa, the Doha Round of the World Trade Organization, and other international issues.

Heads of various African countries such as Algeria, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Egypt and Ghana and Chairman of the African Union Commission would take part at the summit.

Leaders of Brazil, China, India and Mexico are expected to take part at the summit.

Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States are members of the G8.
