President Girma urges association to strengthen its activities

Addis Ababa, March 19, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - President Girma Woldegiorgis urged Ethiopian Scout Association to strengthen its activities of accelerating nation's development and generating full-fledged citizens.

The beginning of extravaganza of the 100th Anniversary International Scout Association’s Spirit Torch at this particular time has a special meaning as it falls on the eve of the Ethiopian millennium.

At a launching of the Spirit Torch pass-on at “Jan meda” on Monday, President Girma said the Ethiopian Scout Association has been contributing a lot in engendering youth leadership.

The association will handover the torch received from Kenya to Sudan, he said, adding, the association was an African pioneer to be member of the International Scout Association.

The government has been supporting the association to strengthen its activities, the president said. The association has reorganized itself to further intensify its activities, he added.

Honorable World Laureate and Ethiopian Chief Scout Dr. Tibebe Yemane Birhan, on his part said the scout principles and oaths should be trumpeted.

He said the Ethiopian scout association has been contributed a lot to generate ethical citizens.

Ministers, ambassadors and other invited guests attended the ceremony and brass bands of the Federal police and Scout members played befitting tunes.
