Axum, March 1, 2008 (ENA) - President Girma Woldegiorgis said the current generation bears a huge responsibility to protect the shining victory of Adowa not to be overshadowed by poverty and backwardness.
Opening a symposium organized in connection with the 112th anniversary of the Adowa victory on Saturday, President Girma said that the current generation should celebrate the historic Adowa victory by firmly following the foot steps of its fathers and forefathers in safeguarding the sovereignty and freedom of the country.
President Girma also said that the Adowa victory is celebrated with a spirit of unity and national pride, and added that that the Adowa victory is a testimony that Ethiopians could achieve huge triumphs while they stand in unity.
As Adowa was a magnificent victory that our fathers scored over the highly armed colonizer, the current generation bears a huge responsibility to protect the shining victory not to be surpassed by poverty and backwardness, President Girma underlined.
The symposium is believed play role in recalling history and inspiring the Ethiopian people to achieve more developmental results in the future, he added.
Research papers on the contributions of the Adowa victory to the African and international anti colonization movement as well as the role of the victory plays in realizing Ethiopian renaissance were presented by scholars.
Ministers, members of the diplomatic community, patriots, Chief of Tigray State, scholars and other invited guests attended the symposium.
