Ethiopia's travel agents and tour operators on Thursday called on the international community to strengthen pressure for the immediate release of the eight locals kidnapped in the northern state of Afar near the Eritrean border.
They called on in a statement the unconditional release of the Ethiopians being held hostage when accompanying five Europeans on a sightseeing trip.
They expressed sadness over the low media coverage on the plight of the Ethiopian hostages by the international media after the Europeans, who were kidnapped along with the Ethiopians nearly one month ago, were released.
International media organizations have a moral duty to inform the international community that the kidnapped innocent civilians are in a severe situation, they said.
The captives are ordinary Ethiopians, who have no contact with political affairs, the statement said.
