Yamamoto calls for immediate release of Ethiopian hostages

Addis Ababa, March 30, 2007 (Addis Ababa) - US ambassador to Ethiopia, Donald Yamamoto called for the immediate and unconditional release of Ethiopians who were taken hostages by armed men from Afar State.

In a statement he gave to Ethiopian News Agency on Friday, Yamamoto said he was deeply concerned that the Ethiopian hostages have not been released until now in the face of the release of the five European hostages.

The Ambassador said the US would support the efforts underway to get the hostages released.

Yamamato said he supports the joint statement released by British, French and Italian ambassadors calling for unconditional and immediate release of the hostages and added that he woudl work together for the efforts underway to get the captives released.
